engagement session

Seth and Lauren knew they wanted engagement photos in the Iowa State Capitol. This Des Moines gem is often ranked the prettiest capitol in the US and we had an in!

Seth worked as an Iowa State Trooper in the capitol building. He pulled some strings and got us in after hours. We were instructed to park in VIP parking which felt so wrong! A trooper escorted us into the building and then we were free to roam. 

This is easily one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in. It felt like an honor to use this stunning space to capture a love story.

So we ran around all over the building. One thing about shooting in a government building is the lights are on timers, a fact we didn't know. 

As we were shooting, the lights start turning off on us. It brought the space to life in ways a daylight shoot couldn't. All of a sudden a space would be lit by one or two lights and the rest would be moody. 

We were drawn to the light like flies and even braved an outdoor minute to get the massive building as our backdrop.
