Why Elope in Glacier National Park?
If you’re all about stunning scenery, privacy, and adventure, Glacier National Park is a no-brainer. Here’s why couples love it:
- Gorgeous Views: From towering peaks to pristine lakes, every corner of the park is breathtaking.
- No Stress, Just Love: Skip the guest list and focus on what really matters, your love story.
- Perfect for Adventurers: Whether you’re into hiking, kayaking, or even taking a private plane ride over the park, you can turn your elopement into an epic adventure.
- Budget-Friendly: Traditional weddings can be pricey, but eloping lets you combine the best parts of a wedding day and a honeymoon into one!

Best Time of Year to Elope in Glacier
Weather in Glacier can be unpredictable, so picking the right season is key:
- Summer (Late June – Early September): The best time for accessibility. Going To The Sun Road is fully open, and the weather is warm. Weather does change fast and a snowfall in June has been known to happen so be prepared for anything!
- Fall (Mid-September – October): Fewer crowds, cooler temps, and stunning golden foliage.
- Winter (November – March): A magical snowy wonderland. While many areas will be inaccessible due to snow, there are still stunning locations that can give you mountain scenery. This is the best time if you are into winter sports like skiing and snowboarding.
- Spring (April – Early June): Gorgeous waterfalls and wildflowers, but some roads might still be closed. This means less crowds!!

The Best Ceremony Spots in Glacier
With so many amazing locations, it can be tough to choose. Here are some of the best:
Lake McDonald
- Super easy to get to and famous for its stunning mountain reflections.
- If you like lakes and mountains, this is the spot for you!
- Best at sunrise or sunset for dreamy lighting.

Two Medicine
- A hidden gem with gorgeous lakes and fewer crowds.
- Sun point is a location you can get married at that is absolutely stunning! See the picture below!
- Perfect if you’re looking for a quiet, off-the-beaten-path vibe.

Logan Pass
- The highest point accessible by car, with unbeatable panoramic views.
- Only available in summer when Going-to-the-Sun Road is open.
- Con: parking can be very tricky!

Hidden Lake Overlook
- A hike to one of the most breathtaking alpine lake views.
- You’ll probably get to see some animals too!
- Best in summer and early fall.
Many Glacier
- A bit more secluded, with dramatic peaks and turquoise lakes.
- Great for couples who want that extra bit of adventure.
How to Make It Official
There are a few details you need to actually get married in the park. Here’s what you need:
- Marriage License: You can get one from any Montana county clerk’s office. There’s no waiting period, and it costs around $53.
- Special Use Permit: Required for ceremonies in the park, with a $125 fee. These permits allow you, your guests, and photographer access to a specific location for 2 hours to legally perform your ceremony. You are welcome to take pictures anywhere in the park (while following the environmental rules) but you do need the permit for your ceremony. I recommend applying for this as one of the first things you do. The office that processes these requests are very busy and review applications in order. Some couples got theirs back a month or two before their date! This is something I walk you through as one of my couples so don’t worry about this too much! I got you!
- Park day pass: This pass is purchased at the entrance to the park to allow your vehicle to enter the park. At $35 per vehicle, it’s not a huge expense but good to know about ahead of time. You may also want to consider getting the $70 Glacier National Park year pass or an America the Beautiful pass ($80) that gets you into all the National parks for the year! Each pass is the for the vehicle and will cover whoever is inside.
- No more timed entry!: In 2026 you will no longer need a timed vehicle pass along with the day pass! Yay! If you see something online that you will need the timed entry, you can ignore that.
- Follow the Rules: No confetti, decorations, or anything that could harm the environment, let’s keep this beautiful place pristine!

What to Wear
Dressing for an elopement in Glacier National Park means balancing style, comfort, and practicality:
Dresses
- Wear what you want! This might be a controversial opinion but this day is yours and we will make sure to go to locations that match your vibe.
- If you are hiking, opt for a flowy, lightweight dress that moves beautifully in the wind and allows for easy movement. It’s going to get dirty and that’s part of the fun!
- Avoid heavy fabrics/layers that feel too warm or difficult to manage.
- If hiking is part of your vision, consider wearing your dress under your clothes or changing in a discrete location when you arrive.
- Layers are always a good idea. As I’m sure you know, the higher we go, the colder it will get especially with winds added.
Suits
- A breathable, lightweight suit will keep you comfortable while looking sharp.
- The weather is unpredictable and we are at a high altitude so you can usually expect 70-80 degrees on a good and 65 and below any other day.
- Hiking boots are a good idea until you transition into your dress shoes for the ceremony/pictures.
- You also have the option of packing your outfit in a backpack and wearing comfortable hiking clothes for the trip.
Don’t let the hike/travel prevent you from sticking to your style! Bring the cowboy hat, we can attach it to your bag. Bring the long veil, we’ll wrap it up so it stays safe until you are ready for it to fly in the wind.
